Dear Friends of www.RAW-WISDOM.com
Just some quick updates for the month of July, including our successful local event, new articles and videos, brand new research, and affiliate highlights.
SUCCESSFUL LOCAL EVENT:
OUR SECOND RAW POT LUCK IN ONEONTA, NY was a great success! Thank to all (about 20) for joining us for such a great raw food and vegan meal. The fabulous dishes included a delicious raw corn chowder, an absolutely marvelous raw cauliflower/macadamia treat, some spicy raw burgers and raw CrannyLion Crackers from Johanna (which, by the way, you can purchase from her on her website Sophiascenter.com), Kripaulu potato salad, a beautifully arranged salad by Michelle Premura from the Turquoise Barn (raw B&B nearby in upstate NY) and Melinda's totally rawesome Blueberry Cheesecake. The latter actually is a recipe developed by Avai, our beloved raw chef par excellance. Avai promises to come back to NY and to teach us how to make this treat plus much more in the fall. Thanks also to Asa for her demonstration of apple peeling on a nifty machine.
We look forward to having regular potlucks (and will announce the next date soon) at the local Green Earth Health Food Store on Market Street where owners Emily and Dean Roberts are expanding and will offer us a room in the back of the store with lots of tables and chairs to seat even more people. So please consider joining us at our next event to be announced at a later time in this newsletter. Here's Melinda's latest video of the July 8th event from her Shining Star Miracles you-tube channel.

BRITISH JOURNAL OF CANCER: An interesting 10 year study has come out in the UK involving over 60,000 patients and was published in the British Journal of Cancer. It looked at the relative risks of vegetarians getting different forms of cancer. Overall they had about a 13% lower risk. It was a 50-75% lower risk for blood and lymph (leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma cancers), something that surprised researchers because it was so dramatic. The risks were relatively lower for bladder and stomach cancers and similar for conditions affecting the colon and rectum. A typical "vegetarian" diet could include junk food (like potato chips) or otherwise low quality. This particular study projected about 29 out of 100 vegetarians (still epidemic) will get cancer compared to 33 out of 100 meat eaters. This highlights why more diligent efforts are called for in these polluted times, i.e seeking out the highest possible quality foods, well-combined, raw, organic, in-season, and ripe. We also emphasize super-foods, wild-crafted foods, potent herbs, and adjunct therapies such as oral chelation, cleansing flushes, saunas, juice/blend feasting, colonics, fasting, detoxes, etc. The rare research that looks at combining such approaches, such as that of Gabriel Cousens, shows far more promise.
UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN STUDY: Science Magazine just published a significant 20 year study that demonstrated for the first time how a calorie-restricted or CR diet (about 30% less calories) might reduce age-related deaths in monkeys. Actually the study still has 15 years to go since monkeys live to be up to 40 years of age. The dieting monkeys tended, however, to have less diabetes, cancer, heart and brain diseases. Previous studies showed longer life spans for other animal groups, chiefly mice and rats with a 30-40% increase in life spans. This involved both less calorie intake and intermittent fasting (or less frequent meals). Monkeys are genetically more similar to humans. A Washington University School of Medicine study (2007) focused on humans, with short-term CR dieting, and indicated health improvements. it used a 10-25% reduction in calorie intake compared to the average western diet.
