Larry's Memorial Tshirt Quilts
When my brother-in-law died last year, my two nieces, Emily and Liz, divided up his many shirts, mostly T-shirts, and made two quilts, one for each of their beds. My nieces were involved in every step of the process and watched the quilts take form over a series of two weekends that I spent in their home. I made sure my nieces were happy with the shirt blocks they chose. If a shirt was very popular that meant the shirt had to be designed in such a manner that each of the girls received at least a portion of the Tshirt for their quilt, so some blocks were divided two or three times. We even quilted Larry's shorts- one niece got the front of the shorts with the zipper and pocket and one got the back! Little did Larry know we would be quilting his painting shorts! What a great gift his kids have as they snuggle under the very clothes they remember him wearing when he walked the earth. I was so happy to be able to make it with them as a memorial to a great Dad who left the planet way too soon.
